Lady Gaga Video Analysis

Just Dance
Just Dance by Lady Gaga was her first video released; it has a very simple makeup which is successful due to Lady Gaga’s unusual personality and the symbols used.
Mise-on-scene
The camera angles used are very simple and convey the image of ‘party’ as the quick cuts only give a snippet of information and help make up a story with lyrics. There is allot of mid-shots used and eye line matches with Lady Gaga and other character which are very useful as it makes the audience compiled to watch and suggest she is trying to spread the message of just dance. The different character used in these shots such as the old lady in 2008 glasses tries to show how Lady Gaga wants to spread her message to all. In every 2 cuts one features Lady Gaga and acts almost a tracking shot to show the progression of the party and as though she is performing to the crowd.
The other cut features symbols such as paddling pool, horses head, sailors cap this has little replication to the lyrics but shows the subvert nature of Lady Gaga and how there is underline meaning to the lyrics which is solo understood by the artist this understanding has developed as she has become a more established artist but previously these symbols just look like genuine artefact's found at a party.
The colours used replicate that of a previous era, this is a very effective as it shows where the inspiration for the music comes from. Also it gives authenticity to the party scene also it makes Lady Gaga stand out from the crowd and shows the importance of her.
The dress of Lady Gaga is very unusual and robotic as are her dance moves but this complemented with simplicity of the colour scheme creates a strong domination of the artist yet that is not to obvious
Overall I like the video but, this kind of video only works for a small style of music which limits its versatility and produced twice is not as successful as it is not unique.
