Mika Video Analysis and Introduction

This is a clever little video which really conveys MIKA’s influence and views on the pop industry which moves us just that little bit closer to understanding why he uses such unconventional ideas and methods in music production and other media material. But again this is quiet difficult to understand as it has a peculiar way of explaining something so simplistic that some people in the music follow conventions to be successful some rebel and usually fail and those who move with the time are widely successful.

Love Today

I am beginning to see a trend between, artists who produce unconventional music such as MIKA, Grace Kelly and such like. The key to success seems to be running in a certain trend that they use a very simplistic idea but what has a unique twist but is instilled in moderation to prevent being overpowering and this is a very fine line.
The camera angles used are of a simple combination dominated by establishing shots of Mika at the forefront which in a number of quick cuts reveals in the same location a number of dancers dancing to the beat of the music and in a way representing the lyrics and MIKA’s subverted message as because no story has been concocted by the video it enables the audience to interpretative the music as they wish giving the audience more power and this could have even been a method intentionally used by MIKA as a playful method.
A different shot isn’t used until 36 and 57 seconds which is then a close up of Mika behind is a number of symbols such as stars , optic hypnotising black and white this again takes the emphasise off MIKA’s stereotypical use of vibrant colours however this is used in the clothing of the dancers to create a sea of colour. This complimented with the close up again instill the 70’s theme of MIKA’s persona and makes the audience compelled by his stare which often used by Mika on his albums. This simplistic use of just two shots is very cleverly used by a compliment of quick cut enables the colours to have a real impact and again confuse the audience to a certain extent as the video does not make up a story in which the audience can understand.
The colours used are very much 70’s inspired mixed with raving neon colours to really compel the audience’s attention complemented by the backgrounds total black covering which makes the colours stand out even more so. The colour of dress is also very uncomplimentary which is lead by Mika’s dress yet it works this shows how Mika’s unusual style can unconventionally work as does his voice and music style. The use of silhouettes also creates mystery and instills their overall persona of Mika and his irrational methods which are impossible to word out which are really charming to his audience.
