Scouting for Girls utilise intertextuality to the max, however for other genres and bands this may become monotonous it works in the favour of this group as it enables them to easily identifiable yet unique so easily identifiable by its audience, It is not cluttered so is intriguing and makes the band wonder the nature of the band’s music so they purchase the music also for established target audience it enables them to enjoy the simplicity of the design. Overall, the methods used by Scouting for Girls are very simplistic yet there are still and art and allot of thought gone into their success. The stages are very simple yet complex at the same time.
Colour Used:-
Colour could be considered as the most vital method used by Scouting for Girls as can be seen from the selection of singles and albums above. There are number of reasons why this method is used :-
1.The changing of colours enhances the intertextuality why at the same time creating a totally new design and colours are well known for representing emotions as does the colours used for each track eg. ‘Heartbeat’ is in a red which is associated with the heart and love stereotypically and ‘Elvis is not dead’ in black which is associated predominately with death. These colours are also cleverly used as they are very bold and dominate so attract the audience due to interest. Also by having all the albums presented in a different colour creates a collaboration of various colours to constitute the album which I believe shows the merging of emotion creating a very neutral colour which is the creamy brown colour which is that of the album.
Colour is also cleverly used a the one block colour dominates the entire cover as the images present are that of a sketch so the pencil/pen lines are replaced by a block colour so the image does not have to be complementary to the rest of the cover this allows this to be done easily and efficiently without distorting the image and maintaining the clarity and simplistic approach of the band, why conveying a simple message.

Imagery
The imagery used is uniform across every single or album produced by Scouting for Girls; however the dominance of the image alters. As you can see the images used in the album are less dominate than that of singles this shows that the overall impact of the messages behind the music are not as powerful as the band’s name it’s self which dominates the majority of the cover and has little distraction around it such as band award stickers and reviews. Also the image in the left bottom of the cover is of a much smaller capacity than any other single and shows that there is little intertexuality in association with the image of the two boys on the river compared to the single covers where the images message is very clear, this suggests the band want to still have remaining some speculation of what their music is about as a element of surprise or knocking them off the scent.eg. ‘Heartbeat’ album has a women with a first aid case and the ambient colour is red for hearts why the women is located in a forest almost as though she is lost.(Scouting for Girls).Overall all the images except the album insinuate the nature of the song.

The images convering capacity differs as with the album it is a small sector where as the singles on the other hand the picture is almost the background of the cover eg.’She’s So Lovely’ with two sweethearts giggling and chatting on a wall. The image is also cleverly designed as in the top left hand corner sits the name of the band and single which is used throughout as the image leaves this area clever so again the main pieces of information are clearly visible such has the band name and song. This enables the picture and text to complement each other without being intruding.

Typeface used
Again Scouting for girls simplistic approach and repetition is very successful as its target audience cant mistake the band’s name due to its indistinct typeface which again is simplistic and linear, which also adopts the colour change of the cover so again blends in with the cover making it successful. A order which is predominant is that the name of the band is the largest text and then the song title is the next font size down. Whereas the album cleverly has no title which is very intriguing and it very old stained paper appearance suggests there is some previous influence which is again reiterated in the imagery used as the indie theme of this generation is very much the reintroduction of the clothes and style of the 60’s. Also it is very ambiguous and say ‘were scouting for girls if you like use you will trust us that our music is good’ because there is no review stickers or hint of the nature of music this shows the bands confidence and understanding how the name is critical to establishment and like confirmed talent and is more likely to be circulated.

The camera shots used are really establishing shots in the sketches to get a understanding of her surrounding and that they are alone but close enough for recognition.
